LESSON TWO, continued: What does the Suit of Wands mean?

In the Minor Arcana of the Tarot, the Suit of Wands symbolizes creativity and action in a tarot reading. After incubating our most precious ideas and projects in the Suit of Cups, the Suit of Wands helps us send them into the world. Cards from the Suit of Wands channel energy to areas of our life where they can encourage growth: new business projects, important communications, our most brilliant ideas.

Here are definitions for each card in the Suit of Wands.

ACE OF WANDS

Meanings: Beginning of a focused, creative period. Inspiration that inspires action. The masculine, or yang, aspect of life. Great energy. Reversed: Difficulties with new ventures. Being "burnt" out by too much energy, too much expenditure, too many thoughts. The need to focus.

TWO OF WANDS

Meanings: Beginnings of a business venture. Possible partnership. New ideas that transform lives, bring inspiration, and energize people. Reversed: A good start to a venture that loses momentum. Disappointment in projects.

THREE OF WANDS

Meanings: An enterprise about to cumulate in success. The ability to transform goals into realistic action. Reversed: Ambitious plans which may not be grounded in reality. A frustrating delay in receiving success.

EIGHT OF WANDS

Meanings: Sudden communications—unexpected telephone calls, surprise letters. Energetic movement. Reversed: Waiting too long for communication. Perhaps it is time to take the initiative.

NINE OF WANDS

Meanings: A pause in work to reconsider plans. Completion is so close, yet so far away! Reversed: Feeling overwhelmed by work. A break is needed.

TEN OF WANDS

Meanings: The cumulation of the creative venture begun with the one of staves. Success that becomes overwhelming with its responsibility. Reversed: Overwhelmed and burdened by responsibilities.

PAGE OF WANDS

KNIGHT OF WANDS

Meanings: Energy, integrity, creativity. Initiative. New ideas or ventures to be acted upon immediately. Reversed: Scattered energy. Inability to focus on matters at hand.

QUEEN OF WANDS

Meanings: Intelligence applied to creating material goods, business expansion. Cleverness. Reversed: Waiting too long to act. Not showing the world your talents. Undermining your authority.

KING OF WANDS
